A Christmas message from CEO Richard Sharp

2018 has been one hell of a ride.

Team Rubicon has gone from strength-to-strength, delivering outcomes for the survivors of disaster from the streets of Kent to the devastated communities of Indonesia and the British Virgin Islands.

We continue to punch above our weight because of the tenacity, dedication and skill of our Greyshirts; they are our single greatest asset and the lifeblood of Team Rubicon.

These are the men and women who voluntarily walk towards danger in the service of others. It is the privilege of my lifetime to serve them as their Chief Executive.

Of course, we cannot respond to disasters without the selfless support of our donors, funders and partners. These are the people and organisations that share our values for helping people who have just lived through the darkest day of their lives.

This support squad is vital to everything we do and it is humbling to see how far they are willing to go to drive forward the Team Rubicon mission. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank them all and I am hugely excited about what we will achieve together in 2019.

Finally, I have to thank the indomitable group of people that make up the Team Rubicon Board and Executive. They have come together, rolled their sleeves up and run at this challenge with everything they’ve got.

Their relentless pursuit of excellence and delivery is awe inspiring, but more than that, how they handle the complexity and uncertainness of what we do sets them apart.

A team from such varied backgrounds united by a common goal and culture. They are simply incredible and I am proud to be a part of them.

I wish all of you the happiest Christmas and New Year.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Team Rubicon UK to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Team Rubicon UK we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Team Rubicon UK to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Team Rubicon UK will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Team Rubicon UK receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

Team Rubicon UK has an advance party in the air on route to Mozambique in the wake of Cyclone Idai.

With estimated affected people now in the millions, we anticipate that our response teams will be working to get aid and water into the most remote, cut-off communities and using our disaster mapping capability to assist our partners.
