The Need

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of migrants and refugees arriving on Greek islands, including Lesvos, Kos and Samos, and seeking to continue their journey via Greece to other EU countries. The Wiltshire based charity Dentaid had been providing emergency dental care in Northern Greece and had been made aware of the critical need for their services on the islands of Lesvos and Samos. While their medical professionals were well trained in delivering dental services, they did not have the time capacity to dedicate to the everyday running of the clinics and the handover and takeover system required when a new Dentaid volunteer arrives. Dentaid requested TR assist in the logistics and running of their deployment of volunteer dentists and dental nurses.

The Response

2 members of Team Rubicon assisted Dentaid by running an induction programme for the volunteers, setting up the clinics with the team, ensuring there was sufficient equipment and stock for the clinics to run, and ensuring the equipment and instruments were cleaned according to the established process.
