13 TR Greyshirts are now at work in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda. TR is working in partnership with Feed the Hungry, the Office of the Prime Minister of Uganda and the refugee community to construct permanent, fuel-efficient kitchens to feed thousands of schoolchildren. Construction of two kitchen buildings has reached roof height with two more buildings started, while another team has been working to build stoves. Greyshirts have been able to share footballs on behalf of The Great Football Giveaway and spend some time with refugee families. We have also provided a field report on our work so far in Uganda.
A team of Greyshirts has returned home from Sri Lanka having worked successfully alongside flood-affected communities to restore vital infrastructure, rebuild housing and test communal wells for contamination. A Liaison and Light Assessment Team including Operations Manager Charlie Peschardt and volunteers Lizzy Stileman and David Shephard have remained in the country to attend a Shelter Cluster meeting and assist local authorities with information gathering and assessment of shelter and water needs.
Further projects in the Philippines, Haiti, Nepal and South Sudan are being planned. A recce has been completed in the Philippines to gather requirements and our dates for the Nepal operation have moved forward slightly.
